Best Restaurants in Tacoma: 7 Local Places Worth Trying
Seven standout Tacoma restaurants, each worth a visit for a different reason.
Aug 8, 2026

Tacoma has too many great restaurants for any list of seven to be definitive. This isn’t a ranking of the city’s seven “best” restaurants, the newest spots, or the highest-rated places online. It’s simply seven Tacoma restaurants we think are especially worth trying — each for a different reason.

Corbeau
French-inspired • Proctor District

Corbeau takes the bones of a French neighborhood bistro and gives them a distinctly Northwest personality. The Proctor-area restaurant changes its menu with the seasons and sources from local farms, ranches and seafood producers, so there’s usually something new alongside French-inspired staples.
Corbeau has also earned serious attention outside Tacoma, but what makes it especially appealing is that it feels polished without feeling precious.
Why It’s Worth Trying
Corbeau feels special enough for a celebration or date night without turning dinner into a stuffy fine-dining production.

Grann
Indian / Southern / Creole • 6th Ave

Grann is one of Tacoma’s more inventive dining rooms, blending Indian flavors with Southern comfort food and Creole influences in combinations that are hard to find anywhere else in town. The menu has included dishes such as jambalaya biryani, tandoori ribs, masala mac and cheese and other playful cross-cultural takes that still feel rooted in comfort food. Local diners have specifically called out the jambalaya biryani as a standout.
The result is a restaurant that feels adventurous without being inaccessible. You can go in expecting something familiar and end up discovering a completely different version of it.
Why It’s Worth Trying
Grann is worth a visit because it doesn’t feel interchangeable with anywhere else in Tacoma. The restaurant has a clear point of view, and that makes dinner there feel like an experience rather than simply a meal.

Cuerno Bravo
Mexican Steakhouse • Downtown

Cuerno Bravo takes the traditional steakhouse in a much more distinctive direction, combining serious cuts of beef with Mexican flavors and wood-fired cooking. Its current menu ranges from house guacamole and fire-roasted jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and bacon to bone marrow, Wagyu tacos and a wide selection of Angus, American Wagyu, Australian Wagyu and Japanese A5 beef.
It’s unapologetically built around steak, but the Mexican influence keeps the experience from feeling like another conventional upscale steakhouse.
Why It’s Worth Trying
Cuerno Bravo is the kind of place to choose when dinner itself is the occasion. The steaks are the headline, but the wood-fired dishes and Mexican influences give the restaurant an identity all its own.

Field Bar + Bottle Shop
Seasonal Contemporary • 6th Ave

Field Bar + Bottle Shop keeps things intentionally fluid. Its dinner menu changes with the seasons, and the restaurant notes that even the menu posted online may change between updates. That constantly evolving approach is paired with a serious wine program and bottle shop, making food and drink feel equally important to the experience. Field’s current stated philosophy sums it up nicely: good food, carefully chosen beverages and sustainable sourcing.
The atmosphere is intimate and neighborhood-oriented rather than formal, which makes it easy to settle in and let the kitchen decide what’s interesting right now.
Why It’s Worth Trying
Field rewards repeat visits. Because the menu keeps changing, coming back later in the year can feel like discovering the restaurant all over again.

Chez Lafayette Creole Brasserie
Creole • Downtown

Chez Lafayette brings a dose of New Orleans to downtown Tacoma, pairing Creole cooking with cocktails, jazz and a dining room designed to feel like more than just a place to eat. The restaurant emphasizes classic Louisiana-inspired dishes such as gumbo, jambalaya and shrimp étouffée, while local diners have also singled out dishes such as fried catfish and fried green tomatoes.
The food is important, but so is the atmosphere. Chez Lafayette is one of those places where the music, room and meal work together.
Why It’s Worth Trying
Come for the Creole food, but stay for the experience. Chez Lafayette gives you the feeling of a full night out instead of simply dinner at another restaurant.

Tho Tuong BBQ
Vietnamese BBQ • Lincoln District

Tho Tuong BBQ is a completely different kind of restaurant from the polished special-occasion spots elsewhere on this list — and that’s exactly why it belongs here. The Lincoln District favorite is known for Vietnamese roasted meats, especially roast duck, crispy pork and barbecue pork. Tacoma diners have been praising those dishes for years, with the roast duck and pork showing up again and again in local recommendations.
It’s casual, straightforward and focused on doing a handful of things extremely well.
Why It’s Worth Trying
Tho Tuong is a reminder that some of the most memorable food in Tacoma comes without white tablecloths or elaborate presentation. Go for the roast pork or duck and let the food make the argument.

Lobster Shop
Seafood • Ruston Way

The Lobster Shop has been part of Tacoma’s waterfront dining scene for decades, and the setting is still a major part of its appeal. Sitting along Ruston Way with views across Commencement Bay, the restaurant focuses on seafood ranging from crab cakes and steamed clams to lobster, salmon and other Pacific Northwest favorites. Its current menu continues to lean heavily into seafood, while the restaurant serves both lunch and dinner seven days a week.
There are newer and trendier restaurants around Tacoma, but few combine seafood, waterfront scenery and local tradition in quite the same way.
Why It’s Worth Trying
The Lobster Shop feels unmistakably Tacoma: seafood, Commencement Bay and a restaurant generations of locals have used for birthdays, anniversaries and out-of-town visitors.
